Best apps to understand your Apple Health data
Pick by the job: Apple Health to store and chart data, Athlytic or Bevel if you train and want recovery scores, Sleep Cycle, AutoSleep or SleepWatch if sleep is the whole point, and Daylumen if you want one plain-language reading of the Apple Health data you already have without an Apple Watch or a score to chase. None of them is a medical device.
Searches for an Apple Health alternative really mean three things: a better way to read the numbers, a coach that tells you what to do, or a better sleep tracker. This page sorts the seven apps that came up for those searches by which of the three they do.
We make Daylumen, so it is listed with the same fields as everyone else and we say plainly where each other app is the better fit. Facts come from each product's App Store listing (US) and vendor site, checked 2026-10-16. Prices and features change; "not verified" means we did not see a clear statement on an official page, which does not mean the feature is absent. How we chose the apps: they appeared on the first Google results page for at least two of our searches, such as apple health alternative app, athlytic alternative and sleep tracking app without apple watch (raw data in the research note).

Apple Health
Apple describes the Health app as one central, secure place for your health and fitness information, with interactive charts, highlights and trend analysis. It is the source of truth that every other app on this page reads from, and it is free. What it does not do is tell you what a number means for your day.
Choose it when you only want to glance at the data. Read more in how to read Apple Health data. Source: App Store listing, checked 2026-10-16.
Athlytic
Athlytic reads overnight heart rate variability and resting heart rate against your own baseline for a morning Recovery score, adds an Exertion score and suggests what to do today. It is built around the Apple Watch. Choose it if you wear a watch and train. Full comparison: Athlytic alternative. Source: App Store listing, checked 2026-10-16.
Bevel
Bevel is the broadest app here: recovery, sleep, strain and stress scores, meal logging, strength training and an AI layer on top, with an optional subscription. Choose it if you want one app to manage training and food. Full comparison: Bevel alternative. Source: App Store listing, checked 2026-10-16.
Sleep Cycle
Sleep Cycle tracks each night with sound analysis from the phone at the bedside, wakes you in a light phase and offers sleep sounds and stories. It does not need a wearable. Choose it for a bedtime routine and alarm. Full comparison: Sleep Cycle alternative. Source: App Store listing, checked 2026-10-16.
AutoSleep
AutoSleep tracks sleep automatically from an Apple Watch and lists many sleep measures, with no subscription and no data upload per its listing. Choose it if you wear a watch to bed and want depth. Full comparison: AutoSleep alternative. Source: App Store listing, checked 2026-10-16.
SleepWatch
SleepWatch tracks sleep from the iPhone at the bedside or an Apple Watch and adds sleep sounds, reports and coaching, with an optional Premium Membership. Its vendor also publishes a guide to using it without an Apple Watch. It is a sleep tracker first. Source: App Store listing, checked 2026-10-16.
Daylumen
Daylumen is the narrow one. It reads Apple Health, optionally adds weather, calendar load and a quick check-in, compares each day with your own range and writes one short reading with a protect, explore or let-go call. It has no training plans, no food log and no scores, and it needs no account. It is a wellness and self-reflection tool, not a medical device. How to choose
- You just want to look at your numbers: Apple Health, already on your phone.
- You wear an Apple Watch and train: Athlytic, or Bevel if you also want food and strength logging.
- Sleep is the one thing you want to improve: Sleep Cycle for a bedside tracker and alarm, AutoSleep for watch-based depth, SleepWatch for either route.
- You have no watch and want to understand your days in a sentence: Daylumen.
- They are not exclusive: every app here can read or write Apple Health, so a recorder and a reader can sit side by side.
None of these apps is a medical device. If a number worries you, talk to a clinician.
